Teaching is not just a job but a spiritual act of worship. The Message translation of Romans 12v1-2 says “So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life--your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life--and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

Regardless of what the world says, you are responsible to the Lord God Almighty and are to let the word of God be the standard for your life. Colossians 3;17 says it this way “ And whatever you do in word or deed, do all to God the Father through Him.” The power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead is resident within you and that supernatural force knows no limits. All you need do is co-operate with the Holy Spirit and release this heavenly power. Start looking at your school, students and colleagues the way the Lord does. Galatians 2;20 says “I have been crucified with Christ: it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live I live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God, who love me and gave Himself up for me.” The response to the verse in Galatians is to release the life of Jesus who lives within you to the people in your mission field.

classroomYou are God’s representative in the education system. Matthew 5:16 says “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” You can be a witness for the Lord by releasing the fruit of the spirit, whether in the staffroom, playground or classroom. You can be effective for the kingdom of God by allowing love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control to be your trade mark.

Every situation that you face must submit to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and bring Him glory. The Bible says “greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world”1John4:4. The wisdom needed for every individual and each specific situation is within you. James3v17says “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.”

As the love of Jesus Christ flows out of you all disruptive behaviour, learning difficulties and rebellion that you may face are disarmed. Without even having to use “Christian jargon” the power of the Holy Spirit can be released through you to bring down the peace of heaven. Each day has opportunities for you to witness for the Lord and to agree with Paul in Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is power of God for salvation to everyone who believes to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”

Ask the Lord to give you his heart for the people around you. Begin each day with praying for your students. You can make declarations based on the Lord’s Prayer. When Jesus taught us to pray he said “Your kingdom come Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven”. You can declare that God’s kingdom and God’s will, come in your school.

Be encouraged by the example of men of faith who have gone before you. Daniel and Joseph from the Old Testament are wonderful examples of men who did not compromise their faith and were given great respect and responsibility by heathen kings. Remember that Proverbs 25:29 says “The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever leans on, trusts in, and puts his confidence in the Lord is safe and set on high.”
